The woman that came to Jesus in today’s gospel does not give up. She was prepared to overcome every difficulty and resistance, and in a bold gesture she prostrates herself at Jesus’ feet stopping him in his tracks, and on her knees, she shouts out, “Lord, help me.”
This woman is full of faith and hopes in Jesus and discovers that God’s mercy doesn’t exclude anyone. The Good Father is above everything, the ethnic, political, social, and religious barriers that we humans have set up.
Our Lord Jesus recognizes the woman as a believer though she lives as part of a pagan religion; Jesus knows her heart and her need and will not ever reject anyone who comes hoping in his mercy. He even finds in her a “great faith,” not the small faith of his disciples as we remember in the gospel of last Sunday when Jesus said to Peter, “O you of little faith…” We can come to Him confidently and present him with our needs, but it is really important and crucial that we make our request with great faith. Be assured that He will be attentive to your cry and He will answer your plea.
In the same way that Jesus favored this woman who was not part of the Jewish people, the community of Christ the King Parish gives us the opportunity to welcome one another as a family; even though we come from different areas in the world, we come with one great faith in the Lord Jesus who is our savior.
As the woman of the gospel said, we as one say to the Lord in prayer, “Lord, help me, Lord, help us.”
Last Sunday when Peter cried out to the Lord, “Lord save me,” Jesus immediately stretched out his hand and saved him. Today he answered the woman’s plea. He is with us. Let us speak out to him and claim his mercy.
Trust his loving presence in your life and abandon yourself in his promiss.

May the Lord and the Blessed Mother bless us and protect us always.
