The entire Gospel of Luke has been showing us the mission of Our Lord Jesus; he is the anointed, the one who came to heal us, to set us free, to restore our lives, to set his eyes and hearts on the poor, the needy, those who are lost and need salvation. In other words, he came to save us with His Divine Mercy.
In today’s Gospel when Peter recognized the holiness of the presence of Jesus, he recognized himself as a sinner, and with a humble spirit exclaimed, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” As Peter, we are not chosen because we are perfect, or saints, or without mistakes in our lives. Jesus has called us because he wants the fullness of his mercy to be complete in us. The calling of the Lord is the sign of Jesus’ arms embracing us and inviting us to do the same with those God will place in our lives.
As Isaiah in the first reading we are a community of impure lips but we are in search of holiness; we are sinners but we are on the path of conversion; we are imperfect, but we look for the perfection of God’s grace.
This approaching time of Lent is a great opportunity to grow more and more in God’s love and holiness, to be merciful as our Father is merciful. We need to support each other with our prayers, with our sacrifices, with our service, and especially with our forgiveness and love.
Remember the words of Isaiah: “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?’ “Here I am,” I said; “Send me!” I am very sure that God is calling you as he called each disciple and is sending you to preach the Good News to all. God will reward you enormously.
Let us find ways to serve the Lord in our family and in Christ the King Parish.
May the Lord bless you and may the Blessed Mother embrace you in her love.
