On the basis of the Old Testament the tradition arouse that the Magi were three kings; an idea inferred from the three gifts and from prophetic texts in the Old Testament. Christian legend names them Balthazar, Gaspar, and Melchior.
Later interpretation attached a symbolic meaning to the three gifts: gold, because Jesus was a King; frankincense, because he was God; and myrrh, because he became a man. We, human beings, are seekers like the Magi; we seek meaning for our lives.
God offers us the real meaning for our lives. Let us continue to seek him and find more and more His light for our lives and for our communities!
