The resurrection is the reviving of a dead person to life again. Several persons that are raised from the dead in the Bible teaches that all persons are destined to experience resurrection, but the just will take part in the resurrection of life while the unjust will rise to the resurrection of judgment. In the Old Testament, Elijah and Elisha raised individuals from the dead.
In the New Testament, Jesus raised the daughter of Jairus, the son of the widow of Nain, and his close friend Lazarus. However, they all had a temporal resurrection as they died again. The premier example of resurrection is Jesus Christ’s whose dying and rising to new life is the fulfillment of the Jewish hopes and the foundation of the Christian faith. His resurrection on the third day is the authenticating miracle of our faith; from earliest times, it was proclaimed as a historical event verified by witnesses and preached along with the Cross as a central belief.
Saint Paul says that if Christ has not been raised, our faith is futile. May the Lord increase our faith in Jesus’ resurrection as we die to sin so that we may be partakers of a new life in Christ. I wish you all a Happy Easter!
